The Chicken Rice.. Bukan Sekadar Nasi Ayam

Smlm kami bertiga wat nasi ayam special.. hahhaha.. mengidam kot. Actually dari mggu lps plan ngn kak ila nak wat nasi ayam, tapi memandangkan Kak Ila tersangat la sibuk, so kami wat la mggu ni. Dulu mase duk Msia x pernah wat langsung nasi ayam, tau makan je. Bile dtg cni, macam2 teringin nak makan. Nasi ayam la, nasi dagang, nasi lemak, tempoyak n budu. huhu.. nasib baik la budu tu x reti nak wat.kalo pandai try gak agaknye. Otak dah beku sbb dah lame x mkn budu. hihi.. Banyak giler teringin nak makan, n yg terbaru my hubby teringin nak makan sate sbb aritu g Food Basic jumpe satay segera. Best je nampak, kalo la halal kan best.... so pesanan kpd sape2 yg lum fly tu, mkn ape yg rase nak mkn kat Msia, xpun belajar la masak ur fav foods, senang nnt. huhu

Ok, back to d story, sbb teringin sangat nak makan, tanye la mak mertua i cara2 nak wat nasi ayam. tergelak je dia. Mane xnye, mak mertua pandai masak tp menantu die bute kayu pasal masak. Mcm langit ngn bumi.haha.. Dah dpt resepi, ari Khamis lepas hubby g downtown cari barang. Tp lupe pulok nak beli ayam.. bahan yg plg utama. hahaha.. so bncg2, decide wat ari Ahad sbb ari Sabtu tu leh g cari ayam dulu kat Masala. Nak g ari Jumaat mmg xsempat la.. banyak keje beb. But then, sabtu pagi Kak Ila call ckp nak wat nasi ayam arini coz Ahad dia bz nak masuk lab. Sbb ayam xde, kak ila pun bawak la ayam.. hehe..klakar ek.. Tetamu yg bwk ayam.

Start masak kul 12 lbh, kul 3 baru leh makan. lame giler duk dapur. bukan nye ape sebenarnye.. Byk bergosip. huhu.


dah siap.. dah boleh makan..

Ni dia buktinya.... siap wat bergedil lg. Sedap....

not much to say, we're still in winter mood, cume alhamdulillah winter kat cni xla sesejuk di Alberta. Tabik spring la kat Sa, kulit ehem2 rupenye..

Minggu ni weather x menentu, ari isnin n selase aritu sgt la sejuk (-19c bt feels like -25c sbb windy).. dah kire sejuk la kat sini, sampai mase tggu bas meleleh2 air mata. arini sgt la warm suhu x minus, salji dah mencair. tp dlm umah ni lak yg makin sejuk coz bile suhu let say 5c and above, diorg akn slowkan heater kononnye takut kite panas. aiih... esok n smp ujung mggu ni suhu dijangka in range 5c to 11c. suhu tertinggi dicatat sepanjang duk cni. harap2 ramalan ni tepat.

enough with that, nak cite pasal lab lak. agak nye ni la dugaan pertama for my phd study. igtkan dah settle ngn masalah nak sintesis yg sgt rumit tu, rupenye x. huhu.. mggu lepas baru je order my starting material for sonogashira rxn which is C12 alkyne with alcohol-terminated. mase nak search company tu dah la susah,at last ade la 1 company dari US. igtkan leh la start lab dlm mggu ni, then i dpt email dari Chemistry Store pasal mende alah tu. harge die $16000 for 100mL. xkan la Hugh nak belikan. bincang punye bincang hugh suruh sintesis sendiri bende tu. then i terfikir, kalo bende tu sng2 nak sintesis xkan harga dia smp $16000 ek? Or what do u think? Dr Crudden bg idea about the syhthesis, n hugh setuju, so ape nak wat.... the new route for the synthesis skrg dah jd 9 steps instead of 4 or 5 at the beginning.

Hopefully mggu dpn dah leh mulekan lab. Doakan mg dipermudahkan segalanye n tetap hati dlm menempuh dugaan wat phd ni. I'm really not in a good mood now. Nasib baik la ade suami. hahaha.. Ni la rahmat nye.. Thanks hubby and thanks to Allah swt for this very precious 'gift'.

Things to do:

1. A new plan for synthesis:

It tooks me about one and half month just to think about a new route for the synthesis of ----. I need to change the procedure for 3 times before it does begin. The first one is to used t-BuLi to substitute Br- group at C4 benzene ring. T-BuLi is very dangerous since it can blow out in a second because of limited handling efficiency and nak dijadikan cite, a grad student from California died because of that. So, Hugh decides not to take any risk and asked me to think a new route to replace t-BuLi. Gosh… The second plan was to used Grignard Reagent, pun xjadi due to my target compound is C12 (long chain) and low yield percentage. Finally, I try to proposed sonagashira rxn that involved aryl bromides and alkynes terminated by alcohol group. Seems like it can be done, so kene la list down ape chemicals nak pakai n order it.

2. NMR training:

I should go to NMR training since I’ll used it in short time to for my starting material. It should be today, and xde sebab yg kukuh I g batalkan training tu. Bodo giler.

3. Report Mass-Spec:

Due date for this report is Feb 28th tp skrg baru siap 1 muka surat. Xtau la apesal slow sgt.

4. Problem Set Mass-Spec:

Problem set is another assignment carried 30% of the total score. It has 9 killer questions and nmpk gayenye baru ade 1 soalan yg leh dijawab. Damn... I really need someone’s help. Sape yg power rangers dlm Mass spec, tlg la hulurkan pertolongan.

5. Present meeting group:

It’s probably on March 23rd. Hugh asked me to give a talk about my research and share with other group members especially about the synthesis. Adei… x nmpk bayang lg nih!

6. Presentation for scientific Communication:

It’s on March 27th, 4 days after meeting group. Campur ni 4 presentation dah within 3 months. Giler btl.. Tu la, dah ni jalan yg dipilih, ikut je la.. (Ayat mek sarah).

7. Submit Seminar Critiques and abstract:

This is for Scientific communication course where we need to give some critiques about the seminar department in terms of their slides, skills and so on. Masalahnye, yg bg presrentation tu sume prof2 yg mmg dah expert. Slide pun cantik2. so the comment is: Very good presentation. Tp xkan same je utk sume??

8. Conference??

There will be a Conference on Surface Chemistry (end of May) and will be held in MCMaster University, Hamilton. Hurrreeeeeyyy.. This is my first conference.

1st & 2nd Presentation: Done

It seems like a very big relieved after 2 presentations in a week. I get started as earlier as I can so that I can be well prepared. Well, my supervisor is very concern about the presentation, so in last week group meeting he decided to give me an opportunity to talk in front of four others member group (Mohammad, Peiling, Nicole and Ying) and give me some comments about my slide and so on. That's a great idea, I know but at the same time I got very nervous actually not because to speak in front of other people (kat Msia pun same je) but the topic is not familiar to me. It's about a desorption technique in Mass-Spec and this is my first time to know DESI-MS (Desorption Electrospray Ionization).

The pesentation has been done on Monday and as usual, kene tegur skit2 tu biase la. Banyak komen membina yg i dpt. Yg plg xtahan skali kene tukar template because i guna template UMT. hahaha... Hugh said, 'well alyza, i know u're from Universiti Msia..(die xpndai nak sebut Terengganu), but u should also be proud as a Queen's student'.. hehe.. ngn selambe nye i pun jawab la, 'i'm sorry, i don't have any Queen's templates'.. Mohammad lak angkat tangan, u can get it from me if u want. hehe.. sah, confirm kene tukar templates.. well, it's not my intention to use UMT's template. I don't have any idea how to create a white background slide and play with the colors to look nice but still formal. I love to have a colorful backgound macam budak2 tadika in my slide. So, i try to ask Kak Erin either is it compulsory to used a white background and she said its much better to used white sbb nmpk formal. So, ape lg, i gune je la template UMT, dah itu je yg ade. hehe..

The real presentation in front of 30 students on Wednesday was went well. Xbanyak soalan yg ditanya maybe because of I'm the last person out of four, and realized that they all hungry, I just try to make the presentation look simple. it tooks about 20minutes and 1 question from Prof Richard Oleschuk about the ionization mode. Then, done...

Seronok2... n ari khamis tu i decide to go to the mall (Cataraqui Centre) jalan2 makan angin sambil shopping baju n beli coat for coming spring. Xsesuai la pulak nak pkai baju bubble dah, suhu dah x extreme sgt. dah nyaman sekarang. Snow dah mula cair n Lake Ontario pun dah biru. Baru nmpk dunia, sebenarnye Kingston ni cantik.

Ari Sabtu kami ade perjumpaan ngn Puan Zalilah from MSD and ari Ahad kami plan nak masak for Kak Ila n Azri, ade tetamu nak bertandang ke rumah. Mggu depan lak ade seminar WHMIS (Safety), siap ade online kuiz lg. Kalo xlulus xdpt sijil. WHMIS ni one of the phD requirement, so kene wat elok2. Harap2 sumenye berjalan lancar.

Ye..Ye... NAk kawin

Seronoknye dengar berita Kak Syara (a.k.a. Percayalahhhh) nak kawin. Hmmmm.. i sgt2 memahami keadaan kak syara skrg, seriously dah tinggal sebulan seelum kawin mmg xleh wat keje ape dah. Mcm2 pk. hahhahah.. Well kak syara, pk skit2 je. Jgn lebih2 lak.

Td boring xde ape nak wat, tgk gmbar kawin n gmbr kat bwh ni btl2 wat i tersenyum. rupe2 nye kat dlm gmbr ni sume dah 'maju setapak ke hadapan'. hehehe.. (ila pun skali la, ntah2 blk aritu wat majlis, sj xnak bgtau.) hehe.. Amik berkat pengantin, naik pelamin mmg cepat bertemu jdh.

I dah kat setahun kawin, Mek sarah bulan 5 ni, darah masam2 manis tu. Cik Sabiqah, emmm... hehhehehe.., ila dah ade poje tunggu. KAK SYARA bulan 3 ni. fuhhh... giler ah.. cepatnye mase berlalu.

Kisah Kicap ngan Coke

Actually malam Rabu aritu I dah plan ngan hubby nak g uruskan segala hal yg tergendala hari khamis memandangkan xde kelas.. (sebenarnye malas nak masuk kampus lg, xnak terserempak ngan Hugh. Nnt mesti dia ty pasal sintesis tu. I masih lg tgh kumpul maklumat. Sabar ye Hugh...) hehehe..

So pagi semalam lepas breakfast kami tggu bas nak masuk kampus, nak scan boarding pas sbb nak bg ke kat zue utk elaun spouse. try la ty kat pejabat am kat mane nak gune scanner? Guess what, dia jawab just give it to me, I can help u!. c.... i dah ckp canadian mmg baik, kalo kat Msia ni pandai2 la ko nak cari scanner. hmmm.. Dah settle 1 hal.

then, kami ke LeSalle Building untuk antar surat dari International Office. Kat LeSalle ni macam tempat kaunseling la. Ade masalah sakit jiwa leh la wat appointment kat cni. Settle lg 1 hal..

Pastu, naik bas balik ke Kingston Centre untuk pos surat ke Embassy n ke KPT. Sa pesan kene wat cepat2, kang elaun lambat masuk. huhu.. Dah pos surat tu, kami ke Lowlaws utk beli barang2 dapur skit. Nak cari beger, ayam madu, coklat, hot choc Tim Horton's, sayur2 skit n cili api. Aritu g ade, semalam g xde dah. hampeh tul.. Tengahari gak la settle sume, perut mmg dah lapar giler. Mase tggu bas nak balik apartment ade lak minah saleh ni makan fries.. Bau mcm KFC lak. Adeii.. dugaan.

Dalam bas duk bncang ngan hubby nak masak ape? Dah lapar giler ni.. Hubby ckp masak simple je la. So, I decide nak goreng ikan bilis, ltk bwg skit, cili skit... ooo best...., pastu goreng sayur kacang buncis. Cukup menyelerakan tmbah2 makan ngan nasi panas2. Hingga menjilat jari. hehehe.. Masak pun cepat2 je, seriously mmg lapar giler..

Dah siap masak, hubby pun hidang nak makan.. Amik kicap (dari Msia, dah tinggal skit kene jimat ni!), air masak n air coke, pinggan2... i pun duduk nak makan. Rase dahaga giler, nmpak botol coke depan mate. Terus bukak penutup n minum.... Mase nak telan tu, apesal pekat semacam? Masin lak tu.. Rupe2 nye terminum kicap. Ni la padahnye letak kicap dalam botol coke. Konon xnak pecah masa letak dalam laggage dulu. Pulak tu, botol coke Msia ngan Canada same je, beza penutup je. Msia punye merah, Canada putih. HAHAHAHHA!! Ape lg, ngan pantas la g kumur2. pikir2 balik rase rugi giler, dah la kicap dah tinggal skit, g buang lak. hmm.. kepada sape2 kat Msia yg baik hati tu, kalo rajin tlg la pos kicap. I can't live without u kicap kipas udang. Org Ireland pun xpe, dgr kat sane ade kicap kipas udang. hehehe

Lebih kurang je kan? Yg sikit tu la kicap.. huhu..sedey

ok la, sampai situ je. Nak wat sarap lak.. pasni nak g kampus. malas nye nak g, kat luar ribut dah 2 ari x henti2. Sejuk kaki, ni la sebabnye nape I xsuke snow. xbest pun. cauuuwww for now.. bye!

Am I phD student? Oh God...

Hari Isnin i g kampus utk registration ditemani hubby. hehehe... Masa mula2 masuk Chernoff Hall berdebar giler. Mane x nye, first time nak jumpe DrHugh Horton face to face. Kami tggu kat bawah je since bilik dia kunci.


At last, hubby yg perasan Dr Horton n dia pun macam dah kenal je.. Hi alyza (u know how he pronounced my name? Sounds like alaiza), here u are. I'm so worry about u. U didn't email me or... bla..bla.bla...hmmmm... baik giler hugh ni. Registration siap dlm kul 2pm n dapat student card. So leh naik bas free. hehehe


Esoknye, I ada taklimat ngn hugh berkaitan safety dlm lab n hari Rabu dan seterusnya i dah start kelas. Rasa bersalah lak tinggal hubby kat umah sorg2.. but this is my sacrifice.. pasni dah keje xla boring sgt.

Hugh pun ada terang research plan selama 4tahun ni. But for the first step he want me to find some literature about synthesis of diphenol group and some other reading about the basic of colloid and surface chemistry since I'm totally new in this field.
